Safety and Spotting (Free Download)

$0.00

A complete sample lesson from the introductory course in the DPES two-course secondary strength and conditioning sequence.

Weight Room Safety and Spotting is a full 50-minute period of instruction: a phase-by-phase lesson sequence, explicit spotter-technique protocols, a formative and summative assessment plan, and IEP/504 and ELL differentiation notes. It is mapped indicator by indicator to SHAPE America 2024 National Standards (1.12.6, 3.12.3, 3.12.6) and aligned to NSCA Stage 2 (Technique Development).

The lesson shows how the course handles safety before loading: no student advances to barbell work until a documented safety-clearance sequence is complete. It is a direct look at how DPES builds safety, standards alignment, and differentiation into a single class period.

Developed by Travis Lombardozzi, M.Ed., CSCS, HSSCC, 2025 OAHPERD Ohio High School Physical Education Teacher of the Year, from more than a decade of daily weight room implementation at Brunswick High School.

For PE department chairs, athletic directors, and curriculum directors: a direct look at the instructional quality and district-adoption readiness of the full curriculum. For the complete course or district licensing, visit dpesedu.com.
